The Insight Alliance Team
Susan Stoltenberg
Executive Director
wominsport@gmail.com
Susan has been serving organizations working to raise the voices, needs and influence of those most marginalized in the communities in which she has lived: rural and urban Oregon, North Carolina and Iowa. She served as Executive Director at the YWCA of Greater Portland, Impact NW, Cascade AIDS, Mt. Scott Park Centers for Learning and New Rose Theatre. Each of those organizations experienced growth and stability under her leadership. She combines her deep knowledge of law, non-profit accounting, planning and organizational development with a deeply held passion for social justice. Today, Susan is partially retired, consulting with organizations creating social change and reveling in the company of her friends, family and golden retriever.
"My own life has been transformed as a result of what I learned from The Insight Alliance. How could I say no to being a part of such a dynamic force for personal change, an essential element to social change?"
Anna Debenham
Founder & Insight to Wellbeing Facilitator Development
anna@theinsightalliance.org
Anna is the Founder of The Insight Alliance, a nonprofit based in Oregon, USA, that supports adults and youth impacted by trauma, incarceration and addiction.
For more than three decades, she has worked across the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia in multidisciplinary wellbeing and education settings.
In 2012, Anna encountered a transformative understanding of the mind that reshaped the course of her work - uncovering our innate capacity for clarity, resilience, and change. Since founding The Insight Alliance in 2016, she has led programs in prisons, jails, and community organizations, helping thousands of people reconnect with their own wellbeing and potential, grounded in the limitless potential of the human mind.
Now based back in the UK, Anna continues to expand her work internationally, exploring how human insight and understanding can reshape systems - and lives.
Kari Morrison
Deputy Director
kari@theinsightalliance.org
Kari brings over 50 years of business experience to her role as Operations Director at The Insight Alliance, which she began in January 2024. A lifelong entrepreneur, she’s built and run her own businesses while generously supporting many others with her practical knowledge and wisdom.
While incarcerated at Coffee Creek Women’s Prison, Kari discovered Mercy Corps NW’s 32-week LIFE program. She loved the experience and went on to teach it—both inside the prison and later as a Mercy Corps employee for four more years—helping women build the skills and confidence to imagine new futures. This work led her to The Insight Alliance, where she began as a peer mentor and quickly became a key team member.
Kari found our Insight to Wellbeing program transformative, deepening her understanding of thought, resilience, and relationships. She loves movies, cooking, and creating spectacular events, and (happily) spends what she calls “an absorbent amount of time” with her children and grandchildren. Her contagious laugh and great sense of humor brighten even the toughest days.
Bekah Raftery
Director of Peer Mentorship, Housing & Insight to Wellbeing/SPARK Lead Facilitator bekah@theinsightalliance.org
Bekah is the Director of Peer Mentorship and Housing at The Insight Alliance, where she leads with compassion, lived experience, and a deep belief in human resilience.
After beginning her own recovery journey, Bekah discovered a powerful truth through the Insight to Wellbeing program: we are not broken and don’t need fixing. That insight became a turning point in her life—and the foundation for her work today.
Beto Contreras
Insight to Wellbeing/SPARK Lead Facilitator & Peer Mentor
beto@theinsightalliance.org
Beto is a community advocate with over 20 years lived experience in the foster care and criminal justice system. Having spent the majority of his youth in foster care and incarcerated, Beto is passionate about breaking the school-to-prison pipeline and creating support systems to help people escape the cycle of recidivism.
Beto’s past experiences, along with his work with DHS, prepared him for his career today. In 2021, he joined The Insight Alliance team as a teacher, peer mentor, and community outreach manager. His unique experience and expertise allow him to contribute to their programs and organization in unique ways that resonate with our diverse communities. BIPOC communities are inequitably targeted and penalized by the criminal justice system through racist policies, disparate arrests, convictions, and sentencing that have long-lasting legal, social, economic, and inter-generational consequences. Beto's life and work history combine a beautiful variety of experiences to help people heal from the traumas of incarceration, drug addiction, and poverty.
